We are committed to minimising our impact on the environment and to helping you to minimise your household waste, whilst ensuring our products continue to consistently taste great.
As part of this we are actively working to reduce the amount of packaging we use and to increase the proportion of recyclable packaging used across our products.
We are on a mission to make all of our packaging recyclable by 2021/22.
The plastic film we currently use to wrap most of our cheese is made up of a number of different layers. These ensure the cheese doesn’t become contaminated before you open it, has a good best before date and stays fresher for longer, thereby helping to reduce food waste. As a result of these layers, this packaging is not currently recyclable and there are presently no recyclable materials that deliver these levels of food protection, quality and safety.
As a result, our research & development teams are working hard as we speak to develop a new solution. We are on a mission to make all of our packaging recyclable by 2021/22.
We are working closely with WRAP, a leading non-governmental organisation, and are signatories of their flagship Courtauld Commitment 2025, a voluntary agreement that brings together organisations across the food industry to make food and drink production and consumption more sustainable.
And that’s just one part of the challenge…
With 39 different recycling schemes across England alone, the other challenge is ensuring everyone has access to the same recycling facilities, something the Government is currently reviewing.
In the meantime…
We are actively working to reduce the amount of packaging used across our products and where possible switching to recyclable materials.
Thank you for all of your thoughts and suggestions to date. We are listening and working hard to make positive changes as quickly as possible and will have some announcements over the coming months.
